The Connecticut Chapter's Annual Report for Fiscal Year 2009
The Connecticut Chapter of the American Red Cross was formed from the union of eight American Red Cross Chapters in Connecticut - the Charter Oak, Darien/Stamford, Mid-Fairfield Country, Milford, New Canaan, South Central Connecticut, Waterbury Area and Western Connecticut Chapters.

Beginning in July 2009, these eight Connecticut chapters of the American Red Cross began working as one new chapter. This new chapter serves nearly three million people in 145 towns in Hartford, Fairfield, Litchfield, New Haven, New London, Tolland and Windham counties, plus Fishers Island, N.Y. We have offices throughout these communities, and in addition, train more than 175,000 people each year in more than 3,000 locations throughout our state. And we work closely with our colleague chapters in Middlesex County, the Naugatuck Valley and in Greenwich to meet the preparedness and disaster response needs of everyone in Connecticut.

What’s changing? The Red Cross that has been a familiar face in town is now part of a larger network of offices tapping the expertise of our experienced staff and a corps of more than 4,000 trained volunteers. You can reach us 24 hours a day, seven days a week from anywhere in Connecticut, at (877) 287-3327 or at www.ctredcross.org. You will be able to register online for training at sites in hundreds of locations across the state. Because we are sharing back-office functions, more of your donated dollar will go to Red Cross services for the people who depend on us for help and less to administrative costs.

What’s not changing? The Red Cross that has been part of your community for generations is still here. We are here to provide the services that have come to embody the American Red Cross Mission to help people prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies. We are here to help you when you need life safety training and information; when you need to contact a family member serving in the military; when you need lifesaving blood; and we’re here with help and emotional support when disaster or emergencies force you from your home. We are the local volunteers and instructors you have come to rely on when you need us. And we will continue to rely on you, our generous community friends, for support, translating that support into prompt, compassionate and professional response to your needs and the needs of your neighbors.

We are your American Red Cross. We hope that you will take time during National Preparedness Month to examine your personal preparedness and your ability to help others in your community prepare for and respond to emergencies. Please contact your local Red Cross - by phone, via the Internet or at a local office - to get trained, to volunteer, to donate blood or to provide financial support. Thank you for helping us to achieve our vital mission, for sharing our unique history, and most important, for helping to make a difference in the lives of untold numbers of people when they need us most.

Together, we will keep our promise that no family ever faces a disaster alone.
